Consultation & System Planning
Every generator installation begins with an on-site consultation. We discuss your backup power goals, evaluate your home's electrical system, determine the best generator location, and answer any questions you may have. Our recommendations are based on your home's needs—not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Electrical Load Calculation
Proper generator sizing starts with understanding how much electricity your home requires during a power outage. We evaluate the electrical loads you want to operate, including air conditioning, heating equipment, refrigerators, lighting, medical equipment, internet equipment, and other essential appliances. This helps ensure your generator is properly sized without paying for unnecessary capacity.
Generator Sizing
Choosing the right generator is one of the most important decisions in the installation process. A generator that is too small may not power the equipment you need, while one that is oversized may cost more to purchase and operate than necessary. We help you select a generator that matches your electrical needs, budget, and backup power goals.
Natural Gas & Propane Evaluation
Most standby generators operate on natural gas or propane. If you're installing a natural gas generator, we evaluate your existing gas system to determine whether it can safely support the additional fuel demand. This includes reviewing manufacturer fuel requirements, evaluating existing gas piping, and determining whether modifications or utility upgrades may be needed.
Gas Meter Capacity Review
Some generator installations require additional natural gas capacity. We'll evaluate whether your existing gas meter can support the generator's fuel requirements and explain if coordination with your gas utility is necessary. If upgrades are required, we'll guide you through the process before installation begins.
Electrical System Inspection
Before installation, we inspect your electrical system to verify that it is suitable for generator integration. This includes evaluating your electrical panel, available breaker space, grounding and bonding, service size, and the best location for transfer equipment. Identifying potential issues beforehand helps ensure a safe and reliable installation.
Permits & Utility Coordination
When required, Wanner Electric LLC obtains the necessary electrical permits and coordinates inspections. If utility coordination or gas service upgrades are needed, we'll explain the process and work to help keep your project moving smoothly.
Professional Installation
Our installations are completed using quality materials and code-compliant workmanship. Depending on your project, installation may include the generator, transfer switch or interlock kit, generator inlet box, electrical panel modifications, grounding and bonding, system labeling, and complete operational testing.
Startup, Testing & Customer Walkthrough
Before we consider the project complete, we thoroughly test your backup power system to verify proper operation. We'll also walk you through generator operation, transfer switch functions, basic maintenance recommendations, and what to expect during a power outage so you feel confident using your new system. Our installation is done right the first time.
